Ritz-Gou Caravan Park in Gouritz Reviewed by Corrie Smit, South Africa on . What a disappointment!Having paid our deposit about a month before the date of our planned two-day stay, we expected to find a decent caravan park as per the advertisement, i.e. a place with 10 camping sites, all with their own braai facilities and electrical points, plus communal toilet and shower facilities.
Firstly, we found no signage indicating the location of the ‘caravan park’ off the R325. If it hadn’t been for Google maps we would never have found the place.
On our arrival, we were met by Ms Rea Horne who kept us waiting for about 15 minutes while she attended to other tasks. When she eventually attended to us, she did not greet us nor did she introduce herself. She merely indicated that the camp site was ‘not ready’ because the place had not been cleaned since the construction workers who stayed in the reception hall vacated it. She indicated that we should decide ourselves whether we would want to stay there or not. I asked her to accompany us to the camping site so that if we conclude that the place is not suitable she could reimburse us for the R300 that we paid as a deposit. She refused to accompany us, indicating that if we decide not to stay we should claim the deposit back from Safarinow.
Since we had nowhere to go and because it became clear to us that it was highly unlikely that our deposit would be reimbursed, we decided to stay for one night. We did so reluctantly because there was no evidence of even a single camping site with its own braai facility and electrical point and the reception hall was dirty and filled with empty liquor bottles. The toilet and shower facilities also left much to be desired – rather dirty and unkempt.
