Description
The Retreat Farm Guest House is situated on Piket-bo-berg, approximately 150 km outside of Cape Town, Western Cape. The self-catering farm house is tucked away on a small almond farm which is part of a large fruit farming business. The Piketberg mountain range has a Cape fynbos climate with numerous plant and insect species unique to the area. The guest house is ideal for those seeking relaxation and privacy.

The Retreat Farm Guest House is a four-bedroom self-catering house that sleeps up to eight guests, making it ideal for larger groups of families or friends. The guest house contains two double rooms and two twin rooms, of which one double and one twin are en-suite. There are two bathrooms with showers and toilets, and one full bathroom. All linen and bath towels are provided.

The large kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with all amenities and utensils. The lounge has a TV and a Queen Ann stove for cosy winter evenings. DStv can be activated upon request. An enclosed patio with an indoor braai area and comfortable seating offers a view of the garden and the orchards. An outside braai is also provided for peaceful summer evenings. Wood is available from the local community and the first bundle is provided.

There are numerous activities such as fynbos walks, mountain biking, bass fishing, kayaking and swimming. There is a large dam situated 500 m down the valley. We have a small rowing boat and two kayaks with which to explore and have fun. While great for swimming, there is also cliff jumping from the island in the middle. For the fishing enthusiast, the dam has been stocked with small mouth bass.

A farmers market is held on the last Saturday of the month on the farm next to Retreat. The local farmers and community sell their fresh produce and crafts. It is an enjoyable gathering of the country folk.

A neighboring farm offers horse riding with organized out-rides and day trips through the farms and orchards in the surrounding area.

We have numerous fynbos species endemic to the area, some listed by Kirstenbosch Gardens as endangered. Retreat Farm has a wide range of bird and animal life - birders don’t forget your binoculars. We are busy building a list of birds spotted on the mountain. Many species of buck are seen in the orchards and in the fynbos. We have recently seen a caracal wild cat close to the retreat house and the elusive Cape mountain leopard has been sighted in the area.
