Xere Motel in Rakops Reviewed by Saskia Veldhuis, South Africa on . Spend a bit more and go somewhere elseThe only good thing about Xere Motel was that the people were friendly, the bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked. Otherwise the so called cocktail bar was a dark room with plastic tables and chairs with a fridge behind a bar, the outside "relax" area some rusty metal chairs next to the car park and no place to sit outside your chalet other than in some dust.<div><br /></div><div>We had to wait more than 2 hours to get our food (which was tasty), so I recommend you order it when you check in. The general upkeep of the room was bad (curtains falling off railings, bath cracked) and it smelt like mould. Also the water smells strongly of sulphur, so don't stay here if you have a sensitive nose. </div>
Xere Motel in Rakops Reviewed by David Roy Crampton, South Africa on . We stayed at the Motel twice on our trip through Botswana. Our first stay was good in respect of the accommodation. The dinner we had left a great deal to be desired. On our second stop, the accommodation was once again good. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. There were a few little things that can be done which will go a long way to improving Xere Motel, because you have a very nice place and a good location.
Firstly, your cook needs to be given training. She does not understand English very well, and we found it very difficult to make ourselves understood. The food presentation was not very good. The chips with the one meal were soft and soggy and with the other meal, we asked for a baked potato and got roasted potato wedges. The salad was not very well presented, instead of nicely sliced tomatoes, lettuce etc., we were given chunks on a plate. My husband's choice of beer is Hansa, and they had none, and there was no wine, which is what I like to drink with my meal.
The second thing that we had a problem with was on our second stay. When opening the tap to run bath water, the water smelt like sewerage.
You definitely need a new chef, people will put up with a lot of bad things, but not bad food.
