Description
Fiddlers Creek campsite is the base camp for Bushwhacked Outdoor Adventures. The campsite is located in Vioolsdrift, on the banks of the Orange River in Namaqualand. Nestled on the banks of the mighty Orange River, Fiddlers Creek campsite is an oasis ideally situated for travellers from both South Africa and Namibia, and is a base for Orange River rafting trips and 4x4 excursions into the Richtersveld.

With 200 metres of waterfront on the river and 14 grassed campsites, Fiddlers Creek is in essence a bush camp equipped with modern facilities. Each site features an undercover kitchen, basins with running water, counter tops, lights and power points, and a built-in barbecue area. Some of the larger sites also have large tables and benches as a permanent fixture under the roofed area. We all appreciate privacy when we camp, so with that in mind, almost all the sites have been enclosed with a reed fence.

Other facilities available at Fiddlers Creek are a small shop, pay-per-coin filtered water, a pool table, and volleyball court. River rafting excursions are available at Bushwhacked ranging from half day to five-day adventures. The two large grass banks on the riverfront provide the perfect perch to view the sun setting over the mountain ranges of the Richtersveld, while the catering and bar area, near the waterfront is where we prepare and serve all our booked meals. Enjoy a cold beer or whatever grabs your fancy at our bar. Lie back in your tent in the morning and listen to the call of the majestic African fish eagle as it flies past.

Breakfasts, lunch and dinner are available if booked in advance, with a minimum group size in mind. Our speciality is our spit braai, where we will endeavour to find your meat of choice. Complemented with home-baked breads on the coals, scrumptious salads and desserts, no one goes hungry at Bushwhacked.

Fiddlers Creek in Vioolsdrift Reviewed by Yvonne Van Wyk, South Africa on . Good site on the Orange River We recently stayed at Fiddlers Creek - our first and last night of our Namibia trip. It is very scenically and conveniently located on the Orange River,10km from the border post. The sites are spacious, grassed and have their own kitchen facilities. We had only two complaints - firstly, the showers. The water pressure is either non-existent or high pressure hose strong while showering. The water is very, very hot, so it is really quite scary. A jet of scalding water blasts out unexpectedly - really quite dangerous for small children. It is a pity because it is really the only negative aspect to an otherwise pleasant ablution facility. We did mention this problem to the young man working there and he was aware of it but it did not look as if there were any plans to fix it. Another strange thing was that we could not buy dry braai wood. The same young man said that the wood came from Cape Town - very strange because the northern cape is famous for excellent kameeldoring braai wood.
